MATTAWAN CROSS COUNTRY PROGRAM RULES
First and foremost this program is about building a foundation and understanding of cross country. While doing so we will look to have fun to inspire the student-athlete to continue their experience into the high school program. Cross country's core foundation is about the run and the time on our feet so there is a strong expectation that athletes that participate are expected to run.

Below you'll find our expectations that we ask all of our athletes and parents to review together.
-
Cross country is a team sport.
-
Respect your fellow teammates and competitors. Name-calling, bullying, and making disrespectful comments will NOT be tolerated. If this persists the athlete will be excused from the XC program.
-
When the coaches are providing instructions and guidance, there should be no talking so that others can hear what is being said.
-
ALL of the Mattawan Cross Country coaches are to be respected at all times: not just when you think they are right (Middle School and High School).
-
If you have a concern about something: you will speak directly and respectfully to the person involved (the teammate and/or the coach).
-
Use appropriate language at all times.
-
Be respectful to all bus drivers and abide by all of their bus rules: DO NOT leave out the back door of the bus.
-
Be respectful to our facilities along with other facilities we attend for competition.
-
If you are not going to be at practice: you MUST let one of the coaches know in advance. Telling a teammate or school office is not sufficient notice. Talk to a coach face to face, by text, or by phone. (Coach VanLoo 269-217-0160).
-
Attendance at all practices and meets is mandatory: no excuses will be accepted without proper notice. 2 unexcused absences may excuse you from the team.
-
Practice will start promptly at 3pm Monday-Friday. Please be ready for practice at this time. Make sure you have used the bathroom (if needed) prior to 3pm, have proper running apparel on.
-
Practice will end at 4:30pm Monday-Friday: Please make sure you have a ride home that will pick you up on time.
-
Always wear appropriate school logo warmups and uniforms during meets: pants will be kept on until it is time to race.
-
We ride the team bus to meets together: you MUST check out with the coaches before riding home with your parent(s). There will be sign-out clipboards that parents can sign.
-
Understand that the team warm-up is important and follow the warm-up as instructed.
-
Workouts are given for a purpose: complete the workout as directed.
-
Attend class during the school day at all times: pass your classes, and behave appropriately.
-
Be proud to represent Mattawan Middle School as a cross-country athlete: your behavior will always reflect that pride.
**Failure to uphold any part of this agreement may result in LOTS OF BURPEES, suspension from a meet, or removal from the team.
